The superhero genre, as well as international film in general, has been completely dominated by Hollywood. The Indian film industry has, however, been able to maintain its position and hasn’t yet allowed Hollywood to take over Indian theatres. Well done! But why aren’t our Indian superheroes employed in their own nation? It’s partly because of the subpar VFX, but it’s also because of the audience’s accountability.Where there is demand, there is supply. Whatever the case, let’s look at some of the top Indian superhero films.

1. Krrish (2006)

The movie that started the entire superhero craze in India was Krrish, which was the direct sequel to the Hindi film Koi… Mil Gaya. Father and son Rakesh and Hritik Roshan have yet to produce a box office dud.In Krrish, our Krishna, or Krrish, is shown battling evil in the form of a villainous scientist who is trying to build a time machine. Both children and young adults found the image to be appealing. It is still regarded as one of the few iconic Indian superhero movies.

2. Ra.One (2011)

One of the few Indian science fiction/superhero films that dared to venture beyond what anyone could have imagined was Anubhav Sinha’s Ra.The movie, which stars SRK and features some insanely cool action sequences, tells the tale of a programmer named Shekhar who creates a VR video game whose antagonist travels to the real world to capture the game’s hero, a superhero named G.One who looks a lot like Shekhar.

3. Mr. India (1987)

The only Indian movie that has endured is this one. Even though the movie has been out for almost 30 years, it still holds up well when rewatched, largely because of the late Shri Amrish Puri Ji, who played the iconic villain. The narrative centres on Arun, a decent person at heart who finds a tool that enables him to disappear. He uses his superpower to battle Mogambo, a villainous plotter who is determined to destroy the nation. Thanks to some memorable music and a good amount of humour, the movie was one of the biggest successes of the year and for all the right reasons. On our list of the Top Invisibility Movies is Mr. India.

4. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018)

One of those films that should have received much more applause from the audience than it did. The Indian people considered it to be one of the best superhero films they had ever seen, with a sombre plot and some political overtones. This gem, however, was overlooked due to poor marketing and the absence of a major star. The movie, which follows Sikander as he transforms into a superhero to honour the memory of his deceased companion, was an absolute joy to watch in terms of cinematography, music, acting, and screenplay. It is a success!

5. Toofan (1989)

We are not exaggerating when we say that this was the first Indian superhero movie. When the movie was released, it became a box office hit with Amitabh Bachchan playing a nice guy who teams up with his outlaw brother to exact revenge on Shaitan Singh for the death of their father. However, it did not hold up over time and is typically regarded as one of Amitabh’s biggest duds. But give director Ketan Desai credit for at least trying something different and departing from the script.

6. Mugamoodi (2012)

Tamil superhero movie Mugamoodi gained popularity because of director Mysskin, who is renowned for his breathtaking thrillers. I was not disappointed by the film.By telling the story of a dissatisfied martial artist named Bruce who is unable to make a living from his trade, the movie delved into some very real issues. He helps the police bust a gang, which angers the gang’s leader Dragon. The movie was a hit and featured some of the most amazing stunts ever in an Indian movie.

7. Robot and 2.0 (2011 and 2018)

Every time he appears in a movie, Thalaivar plays a superhero, so it makes sense that he would act in a superhero-related role. He performs the dual roles of scientist and Chitti the Robot, the superhero he created in the film Robot. The movie featured some breath-taking, cool action scenes, which helped it become one of India’s all-time highest-grossing movies. A sequel to the film was created, and it was even more amazing in terms of the action and box office earnings.

8. Kanthaswamy (2009)

Kanthaswamy, a fantasy thriller disguised as a superhero movie, centres on the idea of corruption in Indian society. The key player is CBI officer Mallana. He has the power to grant anyone’s wishes, which he only does for the poor and the in need. He must also take care of the rest of the nation. As a result, he busts an entrepreneur crony who was hiding a sizable amount of black money.

9. Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2019)

Vasan Bala and Anurag Kashyap have a long history of collaboration. Anurag Kashyap is the supreme deity of the Indian independent film scene. So, how would he go about doing something that isn’t entirely unique and inventive? The movie tells the tale of a young child who has a disorder that prevents him from feeling pain. In order to accomplish something worthwhile with his life, he sets out to save his childhood sweetheart and her idol. It was an odd movie that merited repeated viewings.

10. Shahenshah (1988)

Shahenshah, which was released the year after Toofan and featured Amitabh Bachchan in his best action role, showcased him at his best. Shahenshah presented a challenge for the bad guys because he doubled as a vigilante at night and a simple-minded, dishonest police officer during the day.The movie, which was helmed by Tinnu Anand, was a pure action comedy that attracted large audiences to the theatres. The well-known phrase “Rishte mein to hum tumhare baap hote hai” is impossible to forget. Shahenshah!, “Naam hai!” Haha. It is a classic that endures. One of the greatest Indian vigilante films ever made is considered to be Shahenshah.
